Comraich
(Gaelic for Sanctuary)

We are members of an international spiritual community known as Hohm Sahaj Mandir in the country of origin (USA).

We have our roots in the Indian Hindu tradition, specifically we are linked to the Baul tradition of West Bengal. Our teacher, Lee Lozowick, passed away in 2010 and encouraged his students to embrace the whole of life, he was particularly encouraging of conscious child raising, supporting the development of sane and flourishing community.

We study literature from all the major spiritual traditions, and have basic practices including meditation. There is no internet site on our community as yet, but we do have a publishing company -http://www.hohmpress.com. Our ashrams are based in
Arizona, Poitiers in France, and Tiruvanamalai in India.

Two of us bought Comraich in 2013 to form a home for the members of our community and to create a sanctuary that can serve the world. We have 14 acres including the river Add, native woodland, lawns, organic garden, main house, outbuildings and a separate cottage.

After ‘listening to the land’ for over a year, we decided that our aim is to create and sustain a Natural Sanctuary - which we define as a place of rejuvenation, connection to self, others, spirit and nature, leaving all people refreshed, uplifted and reawakened to a life of love, joy and connection.

We welcome volunteers and have had a stream of ‘wwoofers’ (volunteers who come to work on organic farms) and visitors.
The Natural Sanctuary is something that we would like others to contribute to developing - we envisage our grounds having outdoor spaces maybe focusing on different traditions -
Celtic, Buddhist, Hindu, Shamanic, Christian for example, places for connecting deeply with nature and spirit. Events linked to nature and creativity - singing, woodland exploration, storytelling - all ideas welcome!

We already host occasional seminars and plan to have a couple of small retreat huts at some point for people to come on a residential basis. In the meantime we want to explore how the space can be used on a daily basis. We need help and expertise in all areas and are looking to find individuals or a couple with organic gardening/permaculture and woodworking skills who would be interested to come and stay here on a medium or longer term basis.

Our vision for Comraich is also in the context of a larger vision of creating a global network of Natural Sanctuaries - linking up a range of different types of spaces and providing a resource for people to access and share ideas. The name of this global network is Prakriti (meaning ‘nature/the feminine principal in sanscrit).
