The Catholic House of Prayer at Cnoc a’ Chalmain on Iona, opened in 1997, provides a peaceful place of prayer and hospitality for all pilgrims. As the official Roman Catholic presence on the island it is also a centre for Catholics living on Iona and the Ross of Mull, enabling them to worship in the Catholic tradition. Residents and visitors are encouraged to share in the ecumenical services of the island. In this way we aim to further the vision of Mary Burn-Murdoch, who founded the House of Prayer in order to advance the cause of Christian Unity.

“In Iona of my heart, Iona of my love,
where monks’ voices were
shall be lowing of cattle,
but e’er the world shall come to an end
Iona will be as it was.”

St Columba’s Prophecy
